Matthew 5:9
“Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called children of God.”
What does Matthew 5:9 mean?
When Jesus calls peacemakers blessed, he's not talking about people who simply avoid conflict or stay quiet. He means those who actively work to heal rifts, bridge divides, and help others find common ground, even when it's costly or uncomfortable. There's something deeply godlike about this work, because God himself is constantly moving toward reconciliation with us and calling us to be at peace with one another. Being called a "child of God" here is the real gift. It's recognition that when you labor for peace, you're reflecting something essential about who God is and what God does.
