What does Matthew 5:36 mean?

Jesus is teaching his followers to stop making casual oaths about trivial things, using your own body as a guarantee. The point isn't really about hair color, but about recognizing that you don't actually control much about yourself—you can't even change something as small as a single hair on your head. When you claim you can guarantee something by swearing on yourself, you're making a promise you have no real power to keep. He's inviting us toward honesty and humility instead: just say what you mean, and trust that your word is enough without needing dramatic assurances.
