What does Matthew 5:25 mean?
Jesus is giving practical wisdom about resolving conflict before it escalates into something you can't control. He's painting a picture of someone walking with an opponent, perhaps heading to court, and urging them to settle things right then rather than risk the full weight of the legal system coming down on them. The deeper point goes beyond courtroom disputes. When you're in conflict with someone, the longer you wait and the more pride gets involved, the harder reconciliation becomes. What might be resolved with honest conversation now could become bitterness, damaged relationships, or far worse consequences later. Jesus is essentially saying that swallowing your pride and making peace quickly, even if it costs you something in the moment, is far wiser than holding your ground until everything falls apart.
