What does Matthew 5:13 mean?
Jesus is describing the purpose and responsibility of his followers using the everyday image of salt, which in ancient times was precious and essential for preserving food. He's saying that just as salt gives flavor and serves a vital function, Christians are meant to bring something valuable and preserving to the world around them, whether through kindness, integrity, or living out their faith in visible ways.
