What does Matthew 4:9 mean?
Satan is offering Jesus everything the world values, power and kingdoms and wealth, all on one condition: that Jesus bow down and acknowledge Satan's authority. It's a temptation that cuts to the heart of what Jesus came to do, because accepting it would mean abandoning his mission to serve humanity and honor God instead. The offer reveals something important about temptation itself: it often comes dressed as a shortcut, promising to give us what we long for without the hard road of faithfulness. Jesus' refusal shows us that some things are simply not for sale, no matter how attractive the price.
