Matthew 4:18
“Walking by the sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers: Simon, who is called Peter, and Andrew, his brother, casting a net into the sea; for they were fishermen.”
What does Matthew 4:18 mean?
Jesus is taking a walk by the Sea of Galilee when he notices two brothers doing their ordinary job, throwing their fishing net into the water. These men, Simon (later known as Peter) and Andrew, have no idea this casual moment will change everything. What's beautiful here is that Jesus doesn't recruit from the powerful or famous, but finds his first disciples among working people going about their daily lives, doing honest labor with their hands. This tells us that God sees us right where we are, in our regular routines, and calls us forward from there.
