What does Matthew 4:17 mean?

After John the Baptist's arrest, Jesus stepped into public ministry with a single, urgent message: turn around, because God's kingdom is breaking into the world right now. "Repent" doesn't mean feeling guilty, but rather a complete shift in direction, like realizing you've been walking the wrong way and deciding to turn back toward home. Jesus wasn't announcing something distant or theoretical, but something present and real, inviting people to stop living as though God's reign didn't matter and to start ordering their lives around what actually does. For those of us carrying shame or feeling stuck, this moment shows Jesus beginning his work by calling us toward transformation, not because punishment is coming, but because something better is already here.
