What does Matthew 26:8 mean?
When a woman poured expensive perfume on Jesus' head just before his arrest, his disciples immediately objected, seeing it as extravagant and unnecessary. Their concern for money and efficiency was practical on the surface, but Jesus would soon tell them that her act was actually beautiful and meaningful, a kind of advance preparation for his burial. Sometimes what looks wasteful to us is really about honor, love, and what truly matters, and the disciples' reaction reminds us how easy it is to miss the point when we're focused on counting the cost of everything.
