Matthew 26:73
“After a little while those who stood by came and said to Peter, “Surely you are also one of them, for your speech makes you known.””
What does Matthew 26:73 mean?
Peter's accent had given him away. He'd been trying to blend in with the crowd outside the courtyard where Jesus was being tried, but his Galilean way of speaking marked him as someone from Jesus's circle. The people around him weren't making a logical argument, they were simply pointing out what seemed obvious from the way he talked. It's a small, human moment that shows how Peter's fear led him to deny knowing Jesus, yet he couldn't quite hide who he really was or where he came from. Sometimes the deepest parts of who we are show through, even when we're trying to hide them.
