“Or do you think that I couldn’t ask my Father, and he would even now send me more than twelve legions of angels?”
What does Matthew 26:53 mean?
Jesus speaks these words to Peter, who has just drawn a sword to defend him during his arrest. In that moment of chaos and fear, Jesus is reminding Peter, and us, that he isn't powerless or trapped. He has access to incredible divine resources, twelve legions of angels ready to intervene (a legion being around 6,000 soldiers, so this is an almost incomprehensible number).
