What does Matthew 26:36 mean?
Jesus had just shared his final meal with his disciples before his arrest, and now he's leading them to an olive grove called Gethsemane on the Mount of Olives, just outside Jerusalem. He asks most of them to wait while he goes deeper into the garden to pray alone, bringing only Peter, James, and John closer with him. This moment marks the beginning of Jesus's deepest struggle, when he faced the weight of what was coming: betrayal, trial, and crucifixion. The request to sit and wait shows his humanity, his need for solitude and prayer in an overwhelming moment, even as his friends stayed near.
