What does Matthew 26:29 mean?

Jesus is speaking at his final meal with the disciples, knowing he's about to face his arrest and death. He's saying he won't drink wine again until he celebrates in God's Kingdom, and he's inviting his followers to join him there. It's both a solemn statement about his suffering and a promise of future joy and reunion. In the midst of betrayal and darkness, he's pointing them toward hope, suggesting that their time together isn't ending but will be restored in a transformed, eternal way.
