What does Matthew 26:12 mean?

A woman had just poured expensive perfume over Jesus' head, and some people around him were upset, thinking it was wasteful. Jesus defended her, explaining that her act of devotion carried a deeper meaning, she was anointing him in anticipation of his death and burial, which was about to happen. This helps us understand that Jesus was fully aware of what lay ahead, and he received her gift not as extravagance but as a beautiful, if sorrowful, act of preparation and love. Sometimes the most meaningful gestures are the ones that acknowledge hard truths with tenderness.
