What does Matthew 25:19 mean?
The master in Jesus's parable has been away for a considerable time, and now he returns to settle up with his servants. This "reckoning of accounts" is the moment of truth, where what each servant did with what they were given comes to light. The waiting period is over, and there's no hiding or adjusting the books now—the master will see exactly what each person accomplished or neglected. For those listening to Jesus, the underlying message is that our lives matter, our choices have real consequences, and there will come a time when we answer for how we've used what we've been given.
