What does Matthew 24:39 mean?
Jesus is warning his followers that the end times will arrive suddenly and catch most people completely off guard, just like Noah's flood did. The people in Noah's day went about their ordinary lives, eating, drinking, and getting married, completely unaware that judgment was coming until the waters swept everything away. Jesus uses this as a picture of how his return will catch the world unprepared: some people will be going through their routines, absorbed in daily concerns, and won't be ready when he comes. The point isn't to scare us into anxiety, but to encourage watchfulness and readiness in how we live. It's a gentle reminder that what we consider permanent or urgent in this moment may look very different when we stand before God, so Jesus invites us to keep our hearts aligned with what truly matters.
