What does Matthew 24:3 mean?
The disciples are asking Jesus when he'll return and how they'll know it's happening. They've just heard him predict the temple's destruction, so they're connecting that catastrophe with bigger questions about the world's final chapter. Their question reflects a longing many of us share: we want to know what's coming and how to prepare. What's remarkable is that Jesus doesn't dismiss their curiosity as wrong. Instead, he takes their question seriously and spends the rest of the chapter describing signs to watch for. He's inviting them (and us) into honest conversation about uncertainty and hope, rather than pretending we should never wonder about the future. That invitation still stands.
