What does Matthew 23:32 mean?

Jesus is pointing out a hard truth to the religious leaders of his day: by rejecting him and continuing to oppose God's messengers, they're completing the same pattern of resistance their ancestors established. It's like he's saying, "You're walking the same path of rebellion—might as well finish what they started." He's not commanding them to sin, but rather exposing how their choices align them with generations of people who turned away from God. This was a serious warning meant to shake them into recognizing where their current trajectory was heading.
