““But woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! Because you shut up the Kingdom of Heaven against men; for you don’t enter in yourselves, neither do you allow those who are entering in to enter.”
What does Matthew 23:14 mean?
Jesus is describing leaders who create barriers instead of bridges to faith. The scribes and Pharisees had built such complicated rules and requirements around God's law that ordinary people felt locked out, and the leaders themselves had become so focused on outward performance that they'd lost sight of genuine spiritual life.
