Matthew 19:23
“Jesus said to his disciples, “Most certainly I say to you, a rich man will enter into the Kingdom of Heaven with difficulty.”
What does Matthew 19:23 mean?
Jesus is saying something that would have shocked his listeners: wealth doesn't guarantee spiritual standing, and can actually become an obstacle to faith. In a culture where riches were often seen as a sign of God's blessing, this was countercultural and challenging. The difficulty he's pointing to isn't about God punishing the wealthy, but about how possessions can distract our hearts and make us feel self-sufficient, less aware of our need for God. If you're struggling financially, this isn't about being spiritually superior. If you have resources, it's an invitation to hold them loosely and stay aware of what truly matters.
