What does Matthew 19:20 mean?
This young man has kept the commandments faithfully his whole life, and he's genuinely confused about what more could be needed. He's done the work, checked the boxes, lived a moral life, and now he's asking Jesus the sincere question so many of us carry: "What's missing?" The ache in his question tells us that outward obedience alone hasn't brought him the peace or wholeness he's looking for. Jesus is about to show him that the real invitation isn't about doing more, but about whether he's willing to surrender what he holds most tightly.
