What does Matthew 18:2 mean?
Jesus brought a child into the middle of a group of his disciples who had just been arguing about who was greatest among them. By doing this, he was shifting their entire focus away from status and power and toward something radically different. In that culture, children had almost no social standing or authority, yet Jesus placed this child at the center of the conversation, suggesting that greatness in God's kingdom works in the opposite way from what the world teaches. The simple act of calling the child forward and positioning him there was itself the teaching, showing that Jesus valued humility, dependence, and vulnerability as the true measures of importance.
