What does Matthew 17:9 mean?
Jesus had just been transfigured before Peter, James, and John, shining with divine glory while Moses and Elijah appeared alongside him. In this moment, Jesus asks them to keep quiet about what they witnessed, at least for now. He's pointing them toward something even more important coming soon: his resurrection, which would be the ultimate proof of who he really is. The transfiguration was a glimpse of his glory, but the resurrection would transform not just how people saw Jesus, but how they understood everything about God's power and love. By waiting to share their story until after the resurrection, the disciples would be able to tell the whole truth instead of a partial one.
