What does Matthew 16:28 mean?
Jesus is making a promise about something dramatic that will happen within the lifetime of some people listening to him. Most biblical scholars understand this to refer to the Transfiguration (which happens just a few verses later) or possibly to the Resurrection and the birth of the Church at Pentecost, when God's kingdom power became visible in a new way. The point isn't about predicting the end of the world, but about assuring his followers that they won't have to wait ages to see God's power and presence made real.
