What does Matthew 16:2 mean?

Jesus is responding to religious leaders who've just demanded he prove himself with a miraculous sign from heaven. Instead of giving them what they want, he points out something everyday: they can read the sky perfectly well to predict tomorrow's weather, yet they can't recognize the spiritual reality standing right in front of them. He's gently calling out their blindness, suggesting that the ability to understand God's work requires more than intellectual knowledge—it takes openness of heart. The contrast cuts deeply because it shows they're choosing not to see, even when the evidence surrounds them.
