What does Matthew 14:22 mean?

Right after feeding thousands of people with just a few loaves and fish, Jesus recognized his disciples needed a break. He essentially cleared the crowd and sent his tired followers across the lake without him, giving them space to rest and process what they'd just witnessed. Sometimes the most caring thing a leader can do is insist people step back from the demands pressing in on them. Jesus knew his friends needed solitude and distance from the intensity of the moment, even if it meant temporarily separating from him.
