Matthew 14:12
βHis disciples came, and took the body, and buried it; and they went and told Jesus.β
What does Matthew 14:12 mean?
John the Baptist's followers did what they could after his execution: they retrieved his body, gave it a proper burial, and then sought out Jesus to share the heartbreaking news. It's a small moment, but it shows how grief moves people to action, and how even in darkness, communities lean on each other and turn toward those who matter most. The disciples of John weren't yet followers of Jesus, but they knew where to find him and trusted him enough to bring him their sorrow. This reminds us that Jesus was known as someone people came to with their deepest troubles, and that bearing witness to loss and sharing it with others is part of how we walk through hard times together.
