What does Matthew 13:7 mean?
In Jesus's parable of the sower, this describes seeds that land in soil already crowded with thorny weeds. As the plants grow, the thorns compete fiercely for water, nutrients, and sunlight, eventually overwhelming and killing the tender seedlings before they can produce any grain. Jesus uses this picture to talk about how God's word can take root in our hearts, but when we're consumed by worries, distractions, and the pull of other desires, those things can gradually squeeze out what matters most. It's not about sudden rejection, but a slow choking off, which many people recognize from their own experience of watching something meaningful get lost amid life's competing demands.
