What does Matthew 13:1 mean?
Jesus stepped outside and found himself by the water—a simple moment that became the setting for some of his most memorable teachings. In Matthew's Gospel, "that day" refers to the previous chapter, when Jesus had been teaching and healing inside a crowded house, and tension with religious leaders was mounting. By moving to the seaside, he created space for a larger audience to gather around him while maintaining a natural boundary (the water itself) between himself and the crowds.
