Matthew 12:36
βI tell you that every idle word that men speak, they will give account of it in the day of judgment.β
What does Matthew 12:36 mean?
Jesus is saying that our words matter more than we might think, even the casual, careless ones we toss out without much thought. In a culture that often treats speech as consequence-free, this hits differently: God takes notice of what we say, and we'll eventually answer for it. The point isn't that one thoughtless comment sends you to hell, but rather that our words reveal what's actually in our hearts, and God cares about the condition of our hearts. If you find yourself speaking harshly, spreading rumors, or using words to tear others down, this verse gently invites you to pause and consider what that says about what's growing inside you.
