Matthew 12:24

But when the Pharisees heard it, they said, “This man does not cast out demons, except by Beelzebul, the prince of the demons.”

What does Matthew 12:24 mean?

When Jesus healed a demon-possessed man, the religious leaders watching couldn't deny what happened, but they refused to acknowledge God's power at work. Instead, they claimed he was using dark magic, channeling demons themselves through their ruler Beelzebul. It's a accusation born from closed hearts, not honest confusion, because they'd already decided Jesus couldn't be who he claimed to be. This moment reveals how fear and pride can twist our perception. When we're threatened by something we don't understand or can't control, we sometimes attack the messenger rather than staying open to what might actually be true. The Pharisees' response shows us what happens when we're more committed to defending our position than to seeking what's real.
