What does Matthew 12:14 mean?

After watching Jesus heal a man's withered hand on the Sabbath, the religious leaders felt their authority challenged and their rules disrespected. Rather than questioning whether compassion might sometimes matter more than strict rule-keeping, they chose to protect their power by plotting against him. This verse shows us how fear and pride can close people's hearts, turning them toward harm instead of toward understanding. It's a sobering reminder that when we're invested in being right or in control, we can become capable of things we'd normally find unthinkable.
