“Blessed is he who finds no occasion for stumbling in me.””
What does Matthew 11:6 mean?
Jesus says this after John the Baptist, sitting in prison facing execution, sends word asking if Jesus is really the Messiah. It's a tender moment. John has doubts, and instead of condemning him, Jesus essentially says: "Blessed are those who don't let their confusion or disappointment with me become a reason to turn away." The blessing isn't about having perfect faith or never questioning. It's about holding on even when Jesus doesn't match your expectations, even when his way seems slow or strange or painful. Many people came to Jesus expecting a military conqueror who would overthrow Rome. When they got a humble teacher instead, some tripped up and rejected him entirely. Jesus is saying there's real grace for those who stay steady despite the gap between what they hoped for and what they're actually seeing. If you're in a season where faith feels harder than you expected, or where God seems different than your picture of him, this verse whispers that struggling doesn't disqualify you. Blessing comes to those who keep trusting him anyway.
