What does Matthew 11:4 mean?
John the Baptist was in prison, uncertain and discouraged, and sent his followers to ask Jesus directly: "Are you really the one we've been waiting for?" Instead of just saying yes, Jesus pointed to what was actually happening around him, the concrete signs of God's kingdom at work. He told John's disciples to go back and describe what they'd witnessed: the blind seeing, the lame walking, lepers being cleansed, the deaf hearing, the dead being raised, and good news being preached to the poor. Jesus was inviting John to trust not just his own doubts or expectations, but the evidence of transformation unfolding in real time. There's deep compassion here, because Jesus understood that faith often needs something real to hold onto, especially when we're in dark places. He wasn't dismissing John's struggle, but redirecting his attention toward the signs of hope that were genuinely present.
