What does Matthew 10:9 mean?
Jesus was sending his twelve disciples out on a mission to teach and heal, and he wanted them to travel light and depend on hospitality rather than their own resources. By telling them not to bring money, he was teaching them to trust God and the people they served, rather than relying on financial security. This instruction also kept their focus on their spiritual purpose instead of material comfort. For those of us today, it's less about literal money and more about remembering that anxiety over provision can distract us from what matters most, and that sometimes stepping forward in faith without a backup plan actually opens us to God's care in surprising ways.
