What does Mark 9:24 mean?

A desperate father whose son was suffering asked Jesus for help, but Jesus asked if he believed. His honest answer captures something many of us feel: he did believe Jesus could help, yet doubt was stirring inside him too. Rather than pretending to have perfect faith, he brought both his belief and his struggle directly to Jesus, asking for help with the very doubt he was experiencing. What makes this moment powerful is that Jesus didn't reject him for his mixed faith. He responded with compassion and healed the boy anyway. This suggests that coming to God with our honest confusion, our "yes, but I'm not sure," is better than staying silent. Your faith doesn't have to be perfect or complete. Bringing your whole self, including your questions and fears, to God is itself a kind of trust.
