Mark 6:5
“He could do no mighty work there, except that he laid his hands on a few sick people, and healed them.”
What does Mark 6:5 mean?
Jesus had come to his hometown of Nazareth, but the people there refused to believe in him. They'd known him since childhood and couldn't accept that he was anything special, dismissing him as just the carpenter's son. That unbelief created a barrier, and Mark tells us Jesus could not do mighty works in that environment, though he did manage to heal a few people by laying hands on them. This verse shows something striking about how God works: faith matters. Not in the sense that belief magically makes healing happen, but that hardened hearts and stubborn refusal to trust God actually limit what God will do in a place. It's a reminder that skepticism and closed-mindedness can keep us from experiencing God's power. At the same time, the fact that Jesus healed even a few people shows his compassion didn't disappear just because most people rejected him. Even in that hostile environment, his healing touch reached those who were willing to receive it.
