What does Mark 6:39 mean?

Jesus had just learned that his cousin John the Baptist had been killed, and massive crowds had followed him seeking healing and teaching. Rather than turn people away in his grief, he saw their need and decided to feed them, though there were thousands with no food. His first practical step was to get everyone organized and settled on the grass, creating order out of what could have been chaos. This simple command reveals something important about how Jesus works: he doesn't skip the practical steps or rush straight to the miracle. He has people sit down in groups, which made it possible to distribute food fairly and ensure no one was missed. There's care in that organization. Even when we're facing something impossible, sometimes the most faithful thing is to take the next sensible step and trust that God will meet us there.
