What does Mark 3:2 mean?

People were watching Jesus carefully to see if he would heal someone on the Sabbath, hoping to catch him breaking Jewish law so they could bring charges against him. The religious leaders of that time had strict rules against doing work on the Sabbath, and healing—which they considered a form of work—was forbidden. Their focus wasn't on compassion for the sick person or curiosity about Jesus' power, but on finding ammunition to use against him. It's a striking picture of how fear and defensiveness can make us miss what's right in front of us, or worse, cause us to oppose something good because it threatens our position.
