Mark 3:14
“He appointed twelve, that they might be with him, and that he might send them out to preach,”
What does Mark 3:14 mean?
Jesus chose his twelve disciples for two purposes that work together. First, they needed to spend time with him, learning who he was and how he loved people. Second, once they'd been shaped by that relationship, he would send them out to share his message with others. There's something beautiful in this order. Jesus didn't just hand them a rulebook and say "go teach." He invested in them personally first, knowing that transformation comes through closeness and example. If you're learning to follow Jesus or trying to live out your faith, this reminds us that being with him, in prayer and reflection and community, isn't separate from doing his work in the world, it's the foundation for it.
