What does Mark 2:27 mean?
Jesus is reminding his followers that rules about rest were always meant to serve human wellbeing, not the other way around. The religious leaders of his time had piled so many regulations onto the Sabbath law that keeping it had become exhausting and joyless, defeating its original purpose as a gift of rest. He's gently pushing back against a system where people feel trapped by what should free them, telling us that God's commands have always been about caring for us, not controlling us. This speaks to anyone who's felt weighed down by expectations (religious or otherwise) and needs to remember that healthy boundaries exist to help us flourish, not to make life harder.
