Mark 16:18
βthey will take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it will in no way hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover.ββ
What does Mark 16:18 mean?
Jesus describes the extraordinary power that will accompany those who believe in him and carry his message into the world. These signs, snake handling and drinking poison aside, point to a deeper truth: when we're aligned with God's purpose, we operate in a kind of spiritual authority that transcends normal human limitations. The healing part is the heart of this verse, and it's the promise most directly connected to Jesus's own ministry. Throughout the Gospels, he healed the sick by laying on hands, and he's saying that his followers will continue this work. For many in hard seasons, this speaks to the real spiritual power available through prayer and faith, even when medical science has limits. The other miraculous elements suggest that nothing, not even genuine danger, can stop God's work through committed believers.
