Mark 16:10
βShe went and told those who had been with him, as they mourned and wept.β
What does Mark 16:10 mean?
Mary Magdalene had just encountered the risen Jesus, and her first instinct was to share the news with the disciples who were hiding away in grief. She found them in a state of raw sorrow, unable to believe their teacher and friend was truly gone. Her act of telling them, even though they were devastated and resistant, shows what it looks like to witness something transformative and immediately want to bring others into that hope. The disciples' mourning is important too, because it means Jesus' resurrection would have to overcome genuine despair, not just casual doubt.
