What does Mark 15:40 mean?
While the male disciples had fled in fear, these women remained present at Jesus's crucifixion, watching from a distance. Their presence mattered enough that all four Gospel writers bothered to name them, with Mary Magdalene appearing in every account. In a culture where women's testimony held little legal weight, the fact that these particular women became the first witnesses to the resurrection (as the other Gospels tell us) makes their faithfulness at the cross all the more significant. Sometimes the people who stay when it's hardest, who don't have power or prominence but simply refuse to abandon someone they love, turn out to be the ones God entrusts with the most important news.
