What does Mark 14:4 mean?

When a woman poured expensive perfume on Jesus' head as an act of worship, some of his disciples were upset, thinking of all the good that money could have done if given to the poor. Their concern sounds reasonable on the surface, but Jesus later rebukes them, suggesting they'd missed something about worship, generosity, and what truly matters in a relationship with God. This moment invites us to think about our own impulses to judge how others express love or devotion, and whether we sometimes use practical arguments to mask our own discomfort with extravagance offered to the sacred.
