Mark 13:20
“Unless the Lord had shortened the days, no flesh would have been saved; but for the sake of the chosen ones, whom he picked out, he shortened the days.”
What does Mark 13:20 mean?
Jesus speaks here about the end times, when he tells his followers that suffering and turmoil will be so intense that without God's merciful intervention, humanity couldn't survive it. He's reassuring them that God isn't indifferent to what's happening. Instead, because God cares deeply for his chosen people, he will actually limit the duration of these trials so that life can continue. The comfort in this passage runs both ways. It tells us that God sees our suffering and isn't passive about it, and also that there's a limit to how long any season of hardship will last.
