Mark 13:17
βBut woe to those who are with child and to those who nurse babies in those days!β
What does Mark 13:17 mean?
Jesus is speaking here about a time of terrible suffering that will come, and he's highlighting how especially hard this will be for pregnant women and nursing mothers. When crisis and violence strike, these women face unique dangers: they can't flee easily, they're vulnerable, and they carry responsibility for their children's survival in impossible circumstances. The "woe" isn't a curse on them, but rather deep compassion for their plight. Jesus is acknowledging that some people suffer more acutely than others when disaster comes, and he wants his listeners to understand the full weight of what's ahead. It's a reminder that when we face troubles, we should think especially of those in our communities who are most fragile or burdened.
