Mark 12:42
βA poor widow came, and she cast in two small brass coins, which equal a quadrans coin.β
What does Mark 12:42 mean?
A widow with almost nothing to her name approaches the temple treasury and drops in two tiny copper coins, the smallest denomination in circulation at that time. She's giving away what little she has, while wealthy people around her are contributing large amounts from their abundance. Jesus watches this moment and uses it to teach that God measures generosity not by the size of the gift, but by the sacrifice it represents, because she gave from genuine need rather than from what she could easily spare.
