“For when they will rise from the dead, they neither marry, nor are given in marriage, but are like angels in heaven.”
What does Mark 12:25 mean?
Jesus is answering a question about marriage after resurrection, and he's telling us something surprising: in heaven, the bonds of marriage as we know them won't continue. This isn't meant to diminish marriage, which matters deeply in this life, but rather to show us that our ultimate belonging and wholeness come from God, not from any earthly relationship. The comparison to angels suggests a different kind of existence altogether, one where we're no longer bound by the needs and structures of physical, mortal life.
