What does Mark 10:34 mean?

Jesus is describing what will happen to him during his arrest, trial, and execution, speaking to his disciples with stark honesty about the suffering ahead. The mockery, spitting, and beating were all part of Roman crucifixion's brutal humiliation, and Jesus faced these things exactly as he predicted. What makes this statement extraordinary, though, is that it doesn't end in despair: the resurrection on the third day is the pivot point that transforms the worst imaginable tragedy into God's ultimate act of redemption and power. For the disciples hearing this, it was meant to prepare them for the coming darkness while also anchoring their faith in the promise that death itself would not have the final word.
