What does Mark 10:20 mean?
The young man speaking here believes he's kept all of God's commandments since childhood, which is why he asked Jesus what else he needed to do to inherit eternal life. There's a sincerity in his confidence, yet Jesus is about to reveal something harder than rule-following: the man's heart is actually divided between God and his wealth. This moment gently shows us that obedience matters, but it's possible to do everything "right" on the outside while missing the deeper call to surrender what we treasure most.
